Foundation for Lebanese E-Government Starts to Shape. (21/07/2010)
Things are looking brighter for the de-bureaucratization of Lebanon and the establishment of an e-government. As Lebanon finds itself in a revival state, Lebanese governmental entities are benefiting from international funding that is set to finance several projects across ministries to build up effective electronic governance as well as democratizing the Lebanese legislation system.

An example of this is a recent project launched by the Office of the Minister of State for Administrative Reform (OMSAR) for the Standardization of Government Transaction Forms. In conclusion of its tender for the project, OMSAR has awarded the contract to Integrated Digital Systems (IDS) as a solution provider and IT Consultant, and The Levant Lawyers (TLL), as legal consultants.

The project aims to standardize 100 selected government transaction forms in terms of look, feel, size, and content.  The 100 selected government forms are to be developed, published, and made interactive, for “print and fill” or “fill and print”. The project is also meant to place standards and guidelines for all future Government forms development and management. This effort serves as a foundation for any future efforts by the Government of Lebanon to move from the basic interactive forms hosted on the web towards a complete online e-service solution.

IDS General Manager, Jamal Anouti commented, “We are especially proud to be part of this pillar step in facilitating the interaction between the citizens and government entities. We are also actively seeking involvement in other projects across the state, which are in their pre-tendering phases and can objectively say that e-government is becoming a near future reality for Lebanon.”
Onsite Testing of IDS Quality Management Software Kicks-Off at HNDL Hospital (20/07/2010)

As quality management is the main pillar of healthcare institutions, the Hospital of Notre Dame Lebanon (HNDL) has commenced the onsite testing of the IDS Quality Management Software. The testing aims at optimizing the solution to integrate efficiently within the workflows and procedures of the quality management process in hospitals in general and the quality system within HNDL in specific. The HNDL quality management team consider this an important step towards enhancing their work to enforce the organization’s mission in providing first rate medical care, especially as this step came highly recommended by their accreditation consultants and external auditors.

“Hospitals and healthcare institutions in general, have the most demanding and complex quality systems that require constant cross departmental monitoring of Non-Conformities, KPIs and close day-to-day follow up,” says Ali Hamdar, IDS Executive Manager, “that is why we have decided to focus on this sector during our testing phase. This step will ensure that we have a well rounded solution that will fit all business requirements.”

Seeing how 70% of a quality manager’s job is focused on documentation and follow up, IDS has worked on creating a Quality Management Software solution that will turn it into an increasingly paperless and stress-free operation. And Quality Management, extends beyond obtaining ISO Certification and accreditation, it is a daily task that requires numerous efforts from all members of the organization. Therefore, being built on Microsoft SharePoint technologies, the software is scalable to fit various types of enterprises and encompasses all aspects of day-to-day Quality Management and Monitoring.

The IDS Quality Management Software is currently being ground tested is several institutions, mainly in the healthcare sector and would be officially released in the end of the third quarter of 2010.

IDS Quality Service Extends Beyond ISO Certification (15/07/2010)
When Software Development companies delve into the realm of quality management, they create tools that can benefit all industries.

"From our first experience with ISO Certification in 2004, up to today's second renewal of our ISO license, IDS has had a remarkable growth and learning curve. As we are working with the foremost financial, governmental and enterprise institutions in the Middle East, more than before, we are committed to offering the best to our stakeholders in products, services, benefits, support, consultancy and project management," commented IDS Executive Manager Ali Hamdar. That is how, following a scheduled Quality Audit, Integrated Digital Systems’ ISO 9001 2008  Certification has been renewed for another 3 years, proving the company’s commitment to excellence.

However, perfecting the internal quality system was not Integrated Digital System’s only achievement. Seeing how 70% of a quality manager’s job is focused in documentation and follow up, IDS has worked on creating a Quality Management Software solution that will turn it into an increasingly paperless and stress-free operation. And Quality Management, extends beyond obtaining ISO Certification, it is a daily task that requires numerous efforts from all members of the organization. Therefore, being built on Microsoft SharePoint technologies, the software is scalable to fit various types of enterprises and encompasses all aspects of day to day Quality Management and Monitoring.

“The product”, explains Hamdar, “is something that started out as a tool that we used internally for our QM processes. Afterwards we realized that we can build and expand on it to benefit other organizations that have more complex quality systems and require a systematic and efficient tool. And with the help of several accreditation and quality management consultants, we have been able to do just that. ”

The IDS Quality Management Software is currently being ground tested is several institutions, mainly in the healthcare sector and would be officially released in the end of the third quarter of 2010.

Lebanese NSSF IT Accomplishments & Future Plans revealed at ICT in Social Security Seminar in Beirut (02/07/2010)

Beirut bustled with Social Security specialists from all around the world on June 22nd and 23rd as The International Social Security Association (ISSA) together with The Lebanese National Social Security (NSSF) co-hosted the Technical Seminar on Information and Communication Technology in Social Security.

The event aimed at the identification of trends in the ICT aspects of Social Security as well as the exchange of know-how and experiences among ISSA members. Experts around the globe shared insightful case studies of their accomplishments in the fields of e-services, virtual front desks, ICT platforms, virtualization, social computing, mobile technologies and others.

Within that framework, Mr. Mohammed Yassine, the ICT Consultant of the General Director of the NSSF, shared Lebanon’s accomplishments in the automation processes of social security operations. With around 1,200,000 insured citizens across Lebanon it was essential to link all the 35 branches of the Social Security Fund and upgrade its operational software and hardware. The project was launched at the end of 2007 and the benefits reaped from this project where directly tangible in terms of performance, whereby there were four million executed operations in the first 18 months. Significant improvement in citizen servicing as well as operational cost savings was also directly apparent.

Nevertheless, the Lebanese NSSF is looking into further enhancing its citizen reach and servicing, revealed Yassine. He elaborated that the NSSF is planning to link its systems to pharmacies and hospitals as well as other government bodies and entities on the one hand, and utilizing e-payment and online banking for settling payments on the other hand. Another aspect of it would be in providing e-services to companies improving operational efficiency.

The General Director of the NSSF, Dr. Mohammed Karaki also said that a great milestone has been achieved in Lebanon, whereby the good results started to attest themselves by mid 2008 with the decentralization of services across all NSSF branches which provided great benefits to the citizens. Dr. Karaki concluded that “The Lebanese NSSF looks forward to improving its interactions with citizens through advancing its ICT platforms.”

As Integrated Digital Systems were the main system integrators of the IT platforms at the NSSF during the project, IDS General Manager, Jamal Anouti commented, “It is definitely exciting that our Lebanese experience was duly acknowledged at the event, revealing the satisfaction of the main stakeholders with the services we have provided to the NSSF. Nevertheless, we are inspired by the other remarkable case studies presented here and looking forward to the next phases in the NSSF ICT automation.”

Texas Memory Systems appoints Integrated Digital Systems and Vanrise Solutions as its MENA distributors for RamSan SSD, counting on the Legendary Lebanese Commercial Prowess to Boost Sales. (15/06/2010)

Texas Memory Systems (TMS) announced that it has entered into a strategic partnership with Integrated Digital Systems (IDS) and Vanrise Solutions to distribute and resell RamSan solid state disks (SSD), the World’s Fastest Storage ®, throughout the Middle East and North Africa.  TMS’ partnership with IDS and Vanrise brings together the world leader in the manufacture of SSDs and one of the Middle East’s leading organizations in information technology in the fields of solution development, integration and sales.

“We are very optimistic regarding the potential RamSan system sales growth that this new relationship promises to deliver throughout the MENA Region.  The millennial commercial prowess of the Lebanese people is legendary.  But more importantly, we will surely benefit from the reputation for competence and fairness that IDS has earned with its enterprise and government clients.  The technical expertise of the IDS IT support personnel is well-known and respected throughout the region.  We are also excited about our new partnership with Vanrise and its specialization in the development of software solutions for the telecom industry.  Vanrise Solutions are in use by telecom operators on three continents. Because the telecom industry is one of the primary markets for RamSan systems, TMS views this new partnership as a ‘win-win’ for TMS, Integrated Digital Systems and Vanrise”, commented Levi Norman, Director of Marketing and OEM for Texas Memory Systems.

TMS foresees that the Middle East region will become increasingly important to the global economic environment in the coming decades. As the manufacturing bases in Turkey and elsewhere begin to take off and the regional oil & gas producers expand their petro-chemical industries, the relative contribution to global economic activity from the area will significantly increase. The Middle East region should regain its historic position as a major provider of not only raw materials, but also of high-value manufactured goods. It is hoped that TMS together with its partners IDS and Vanrise will be able to contribute in part to this metamorphosis.

RamSan SSDs have a proven track record of high performance, durability, and reliability in major enterprises around the globe, the world’s largest stock exchanges, and within the infrastructures of many of the largest fixed and mobile telecom infrastructures on 4 continents.  With the exponential growth in the size of data bases and the increasing requirement from users to access the information contained in those data bases ever faster, the most rational and cost effective way for an enterprise or governmental agency to increase data access performance is to place the most frequently accessed files and logs onto their fastest storage device, which in the future will generally be an SSD.  “And businesses in the MENA region need to jump on this trend train to ensure competitive and quality performance in an ever demanding business environment”, agreed IDS GM Jamal Anouti and Vanrise GM Kahlil Yehia.

KAMCO (Kipco Asset Management Company) has created an online stock simulator for Kuwait University’s Finance Club members to virtually trade on the Kuwait Stock Exchange.

The program, KAMCO Stock Simulator (KSS), was developed based on the IDS Online Trading System, which is already integrated within KAMCO’s website. On this occasion, KAMCO's Acting Head of Sales and Marketing, Ms. Rola Al Mohtaseb, said:

"Many of us lack the courage to trade on the Kuwait Stock Exchange, either because of a lack of experience or because of a fear of incurring a financial loss. It is for precisely this reason that KAMCO ensured the development of KSS for students to build up talent, knowledge, and first-hand experience in virtual trading. This is achieved by trading in shares under their real names, but with virtual money."

Markaz Launches New Website Gearing Up Flexibility of Web-Content Management and Fuelling Social Media (16/07/2009)
A good working history on multiple projects has convinced The Kuwait Financial Center - Markaz to entrust the execution of the new web hub to the IDS team. Markaz vision was to create an ever-changeable website that will be fueled by the interaction of its network of experts and their clients.

The IDS team set out to work hard to ensure unprecedented flexibility is offered to the site’s administrators with New Age Content Management. Website Elements can be reshuffled by simply dragging and dropping the required tabs such as banners, ads and photos into place. This makes changing the website design is literally like changing an outfit and can be accomplished in seconds. This reasonable investment in web-development has given Markaz a website that can always be fresh.

A second pillar after flexibility was functionality. In addition to taking advantage of Markaz research and data, all Markaz clients have a personalization enabled private area where they can monitor their investments, make trades, and access additional services.

Staying ahead of the curve was also important for Markaz. To achieve it, amongst other things, Markaz has added Social Bookmarking tools to all of its published content. Another Network Building tool was i-Markaz consisting of Blogging and Pod casting. The Blog presents a favourable format for Markaz leading financial & stock management experts to add on to the considerable amount of Markaz published studies and reports on market trends, by presenting a different, more personal view, and communicating directly with the readers, at times even providing investment advise and hints. Not only that, the Blog also enables reader commenting, opening up a communication channel which helps better promote Markaz products and services. And Video Casting adds a twist of variety, swerving from mundane numbers and charts to video streaming and interactive communication.

Bringing the website to life IDS experts have accomplished flexibility, ease of use and the complete consolidation of the Arabic and English Interfaces. An important feat was keeping the old Markaz data & research archive accessible and in-place through considered data & code migration.

Nevertheless it is better to see for yourself the vastness of Markaz new site and keep on posted on website features to be revealed soon.
American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) signs off IDS to develop NCPNN Research Software Utilities (22/06/2009)
In 1998 AUBMC established a collaborative network amongst professionals in the leading Lebanese healthcare institutions to improve the health of pregnant women and their newborns, NCPNN. Having databases and research at the heart of these objectives NCPNN needs the proper tools to achieve its objectives.

IDS objective centers on the developments of tools and utilities that will enable NCPNN to conduct effective research and harvest conclusive data from their database, questionnaires and other research techniques. This will be achieved through multi-tier information management platforms that will aid NCPNN in developing effective questionnaires for their research, processing the questionnaires and visualizing the trends/results highlighted by the respondents’ answers and generating useful content in the form of researches and recommendations. Another facet includes the proper classification of existing data that will facilitate data mining and monitoring to provide a solid basis for research and guide in achieving NCPNN’s organizational goals.

Let us hope IDS Solutions will aid to shed light onto ongoing NCPNN concerns such as global burden of preterm birth, its causes, and complications. The effects of genes and the environment on health, congenital heart disease, allergy prevention, preconception care, maternal mortality, and neonatal resuscitation

Future plans for this cooperation also include building up a more advanced, independent website for NCPNN that will be more effective in reflecting NCPNN work and publishing its research.

Beirut Travel Academy – The Online Launch Journey (23/03/2009)

A new color palette was not all that IDS did for the Beirut Academy for Travel & Sciences (B.A.T.S.) web page. The team took upon itself to create a dynamic & flexible website that will evolve and grow with the Academy.

Being the leading Travel, Tourism and Freight education, training & recruitment consultants, as well as marketing consultants, B.A.T.S. had very concrete website requirements.

The aim of the design concept was to display and advertise all the B.A.T.S. business activities and events without extensive click through. The dynamic Advertisement Panel & the News Headlines side banner came in play to providing a snapshot from the moment the visitor “steps through the door”.

However, the true accomplishment lies in the CMS online back-office solution. This has given B.A.T.S. complete creative reign over the current and future content of the site. As the site develops in the web-space you will notice the emergence of new sections, sub-sections, documents and other useful content added by B.A.T.S. without resorting to the use of complex programming or outside help.

The final touch by IDS will be the launch of the B.A.T.S. website dynamic recruitment module in the upcoming month.

Stock Options Market in Kuwait launches IDS Stock Options Solution (01/03/2009)
The Kuwait Financial Centre (Markaz) is one of the leading asset management and investment banking institutions in the Arab region. In an effort to focus on meeting client investment needs, Markaz introduced the first options trading platform in the Middle East by issuing and selling derivative instruments (Call options) on KSE listed stocks in 1992. And in order to support this decision Marakaz implemented a Multi- Module Options Trading Software Solution.

Because Markaz’s core values are based on being flexible and fast in adapting to change, Markaz took the tough decision not to upgrade the old system, which was designed in 1992, but to invest in a new full fledged solution.

The new solution had to not only fulfill the current requirements and overcome the shortcomings of the current software, but also have the capacity within its architecture to incorporate Markaz vision of future of the Kuwait Option Trading market.

Outsourcing the solution needed to be handed to a company with a reputation of integrity and professionalism, in addition to significant experience and expertise in building financial solutions. Another requirement was the in-depth knowledge of the rules and regulation of the Kuwait Stock Exchange market and its IT infrastructure.

Consequently, IDS was handed the challenge in all of its aspects.

The intricacy of the Options Trading process demanded a well functioning workflow of several operational cross integrated modules. Once the Option Market opens, simultaneous synchronization needs to be maintained between the screens in the Kuwait Stock Exchange and the Brokers’ Module, all in sync with the Markaz Backoffice Module. As all orders are executed and validated via the Kuwait Stock Exchange through a secure validation module. The back office is further supported by separate pricing and analytical modules.

And 9 months after getting on the project, 2 months of on site implementation and  one month of training, the solution is fully functional and a complete transition of all operations and data has been made.

Markaz are completely satisfied with the final results of the cooperation and Mr. Hussein Zeineddine, Assistant Vice President and Stock Options project manager says “The Stock Options System, developed by IDS for Markaz, has answered our needs, and we are impressed with its high performance, friendly interfaces, and accurate results."

Mr. Zeineddine concluded, - "The entire experience was a success and all steps - from specifications to implementation - were smooth, efficient, and on time”
