IDS Participates in E-government Conference

16 Nov 2016

On October 15, under the sponsorship of the Governor of Nabatiyeh, Judge Mahmoud Mawla, the Union of Municipalities of Iklim al-Touffah (UOMIT) (اتحاد بلديات اقليم التفاح) hosted the opening ceremony of the first training center in the Southern Lebanese town Jbeih (جباع), dedicated to train municipality members and staff on the e-municipality portal.

Mr. Mohamad Noureddine, Project Manager at IDS, attended the opening ceremony with the presence of the current president of UOMIT, Mr. Bilal Chehadeh, its previous president Mr. Mohamad Dhaini, and a number of Municipality Mayors from the Iklim al-Touffah region.

The next day, October 16, the UOMIT organized a conference about e-government and the OPENWIND project with the presence of MP Mr. Yassine Jaber and a number of officials in the Lebanese government. IDS was invited to speak about its experience in the project and in e-government, alongside MP Mr. Hassan Fadlallah, President of the Committee on Information and Communications in the Lebanese Parliament (رئيس لجنة الاعلام والاتصالات في المجلس النيابي اللبناني), and Mr. Bilal Chehadeh, President of UOMIT.

IDS General Manager, Mr. Jamal Anouti, and Mr. Mohamad Noureddine represented IDS in the conference.

Mr. Anouti highlighted the importance of the integration of technology in the government and the phases for implementing and achieving a successful e- government. “Using technology in public administrations covers the development of public services for citizens, ensuring transparency of operations in the public sector, and strengthening the support of public policies in the government. Moreover, the application of e-government follows two major phases; the first is public awareness about all government regulations and transactions online; and the second is interaction through the provision of simple and easy channels of communication between citizens and public administrations.” – says Anouti.

Mr. Noureddine, on the other hand, explained in details the services that the e-municipality portal provides and highlighted its main features and the aim that it serves. He also gave a live demo and live training to attendees. Mr. Noureddine also announced the launch of UOMIT mobile application at the conference as another part of the project.
